EC Meeting Minutes 4-1-08
1- Election Update: Br Mourad reported that preparations for the upcoming elections are going as planned. All available positions have nominees. He is still waiting for responses from a couple of brothers regarding their acceptance to be nominated.
2- April 12, 2008 potluck dinner suggestions: Br Sohail’s suggestions about considering having the potluck dinner outside are approved if he feels he can make the necessary arrangements. Otherwise, Br Sohail along with other volunteers will work on organization of the potluck as per our last potluck in February.
3- General community affairs/issues: Several issues were brought to the attention of the board about general behavior and conduct of some people at the Masjid. After discussion of these issues it was decided that the best way to address these issues was through the Friday khutba and other modalities of providing guidance. One of the Friday khutbas in the near future should address issues of Islamic Akhlaqu (manners) in general.
4- Lodging or boarding in the masjid: It will be made absolutely clear to all brothers and sisters that NO ONE is permitted to spend the night in the Masjid building (on any of the floors) except with the authorization of the EC board. The only persons to be spending the night in the building are the residents on the second floor who are renting a room.
5- Financial report: Current balance in the General fund is $21,600 of which about $700 is Zakat. New Building fund is $20,000.
6- Maintenance projects update: · Men’s wudu restroom project is almost complete – awaiting parts to come in for installation. · Roof shingles and repair of gutters will be addressed by Br Saieb ASAP. · Br Saieb will prepare a priority list of needed big-ticket items which will require repair or remodeling over the next 6-12 months and beyond.
7- Update on legal matters: The developments of the legal issues (past burglaries) were reviewed. The board is allowing the local legal/justice system to take its course. No actions are recommended.
8- School update: There are no new issues with the Sunday school. Several brothers and sisters attended the ISNA Education Forum in Chicago. This was a very useful educational experience for all who participated. The school is doing well and has been financially self reliant to this point.
