EC Meeting Minutes

1.) Approve previous EC meeting minutes:

· Minutes for December 13, 2007 meeting approved and will be posted.

 

2.) Financial Report

· The New Building Fund account currently has around  $20,000.

· The General Account for the masjid contains around $20, 000.

· The remain funds from the Kiosk project ($800 ~) will go in the General Account.

 

3.) School Report

· Hiring new teacher is becoming a concern.   New initiatives needs to be implemented to infuse new energy in the program.

· Parent’s representatives needs to be appointed.  This is improve the staff and parent relationship.

· We need to investigate this year to evaluate taking Islamic school at a offsite location.  Needs to look into Morton Community center and Burtsfield school to accommodate 6 classes for 5 hours on Sunday.

 

4.) Snow Blower for Masjid:

· It has been decided not to buy a snow blower for the Masjid, due to lack of storage space and not enough usage to justify the investment.

· However we will look into hiring somebody to come clean the sidewalks and parking areas.

 

5.)  Water Damage in the Basement:

· D Davis Co. is going to provide more detailed estimates for putting new parts to finish up the men’s wudu area and also estimate of finishing it up by salvaging some of existing parts.

· Idea was suggested to change to more commonly available parts (faucets etc.) which suggest to put everything new.

· We will start asking for donations to raise $30,000 for the two projects:

·  Heating/Cooling Maintenance and Ducts cleaning  $10,000

· Renovation of the men's bathroom/wudu area due to leakage, $20,000

 

 

6.)  Review Eid Activities:

· The organization and execution of plan was not done properly due to lack of interest of committed Volunteers.

· Somehow we need to convey the message to us and all volunteers that when we take the responsibility to do a task then we take it seriously.

 

7.)  Tenant Issues:

· The heating is not working properly in some areas.  (few of us looked at the problem and made few changes, we need to ask tenant’s input to see if the issue has been resolved?)

· If that hasn’t solve the problem then following things were suggested:

· Ducts needs to be checked

· Buy portable heating units for effected areas.

· The Air Filters needs to be looked at and replaced at regular interval.

 

8.)  General Assembly Meeting:

· February 16 (Saturday) has been set for GA meeting.

 

9.)  Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for Masjid:

· We will ask for two units, one for the brother’s side and one for the sister’s side.

· 10 people will be chosen to go through the training.

· AEDs would be available for neighbors as well.

 

10.)  EC Elections:

· Last date to submit nominees is March 14th.

· Elections will be on April 12^th.

· Elections committee will be announced later.

· Elections will be held for the following positions:

· Secretary and Public Affairs Office

· Fund Raiser and NAIT Representative

· Islamic Education Board (IEB)

 

11.)  Kokomo Muslims Community’s request to raise funds for Masjid project:

· We agree that they will given permission to raise funds (separate donation box)

· We also agree that if somebody wants to give khutbah from their community they need to provide the written khutbah in advance to the khutbah committee.
