EC Meeting Minutes 12-13-07
1.) Eid-al-Adha Arrangements · Khateeb will be Dr. Mourad. Brother Fareed will serve as the back-up khateeb. · Eid-al-Adha prayer will begin promptly at 8:30 AM in shaa Allah. · The masjid will provide the donuts and the tea for the breakfast.. Dr. Sankari will have Sister Sereen coordinate with the parents of the Weekend Islamic School parents for bringing the remaining food items. · The tarps used as prayer mats for the previous Eid were all washed and additional tarps were purchased.
2.) Financial Report · The New Building Fund account currently has around $19,000. · The General Account for the masjid contains around $14, 000.
3.) School Report · Fall semester for the Weekend Islamic School will conclude with the end of semester party on Saturday, January 15, 2007. · Sister Sereen will remain as the principal of the school for the Spring semester
4.) Maintenance Issues · Mold Remediation – Dr. Sankari contacted the Service Pro Company to determine the source of the mold in the masjid and it was determined to emanate from the men’s bathroom/wudu area. The tiles and wall will most likely need to be removed and replaced along with the faucets. Estimate by the Service Pro Company to complete the job is between $14, 000 - $16, 000. Dr. Sankari will try to get at least two more estimates from other companies before the EC decides which company to use to resolve the issue. · Vertical and horizontal cracks have been observed in various walls around the masjid. These cracks will need to be filled but this is a cosmetic issue. · The ducts in the masjid were checked by the Service Pro Company to determine the cost for cleaning the ducts. The estimate was $8, 000 for a thorough cleaning of the ducts which the EC agreed not to pursue at this time. · Heating/Cooling Contract – Lafayette Heating and Cooling Company proposed to perform standard maintenance checks on all four heating/cooling units in the masjid for four times the following year for a cost of $1, 376. To change the filters in addition to performing the standard maintenance of the four units would cost $1, 800. The EC agreed to not sign the contract and to continue with the current contract in place. · Outdoor Lighting – Dr. Sankari contacted Lawrence Bowers Electric Company to obtain estimates for the outdoor lighting issue around the masjid. To place two lights above the parking lot facing First Street and the side of the masjid facing Russell Street was estimated to cost $1, 279. Lighting up the area adjacent to the gazebo was estimated to cost $1, 038. To lower the two large light fixtures in the stair wells to replace the light bulbs would cost $400. Dr. Sankari will try to get at least two more estimates from other companies before the EC decides which company to use to resolve the issue. |
